What So Important About Love & Respect?

Ironically, there are more books being published on marriage today than ever before. There are books on marital communication, money management, sex, etc. There are even books on how to become a better husband (or wife) in thirty days! But with all our knowledge, the craziness and conflict continues. And it doesn’t seem to matter if the couples are Christians or unbelievers. Why?

Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, in his book “Love and Respect For A Lifetime,” has concluded that those of us in the church, who believe we have the Truth, are not using the whole truth. A crucial part of God’s Word has been completely ignored or perhaps simply gone unnoticed when it has been there all the time right under our noses!

Many Christian spouses know Ephesians 5:33 and can at least paraphrase it. The apostle Paul tells husbands to love their wives as much as they love themselves, and wives are to respect their husbands. But is anyone really listening? Perhaps the first step to better communication between husband and wife is to hear what God’s Word clearly says, because living out Ephesians 5:33 is the key to blending together as one to reflect the very image of God.

This book will show you the power of unconditional love and unconditional respect. As you and your spouse use these powerful tools, you can save a struggling marriage from the divorce court or a “ho-hum” marriage from boredom and concealed bitterness. If you have a good marriage, you can make it even better.

Has Someone Changed Your Life?

Kind people not only say “Good Morning,” they make the coffee. You’ve met them. Your life is probably better because of them.

They are the people who make life nicer, more beautiful…and for some, bearable. They’re real people with remarkable hears. People whose unselfish generosity wraps a strong arm around your shoulders and walks you from the brink of despair to the axis of hope. They give whether anyone notices or not. They sacrifice without being asked. They give up personal dreams for the sake of others.

What would we do without them? Let’s hope we never have to. What can we do for them? Let’s recognize what they’ve done and give them a medal of gratefulness. Let’s say, “Thank you!”

If you have someone in mind who fits this bill, I’ve got the perfect book. It’s a collection from Max Lucado called “You Changed My Life.” It’s filled with beautiful, inspiring stories of people who have made an impact on another. It’s perfectly designed to be a “thank you” from you to them. To tell them how grateful you are for how they changed your life.

Here’s an entry from Max called “Kind Like Christ”:

A woman in a small Arkansas community was a single mom with a frail baby. Her neighbor would stop by every few days and keep the child so she could shop. After some weeks her neighbor shared more than time; she shared her faith, and the woman did what Mattew did. She followed Christ.

The friends of the young mother objected. “Do you know what those people teach?” they contested.

“Here’s what I know,” she told them. “They held my baby.”

You may never know the impact your small actions will have on the person receiving them.

Do the Heavens Proclaim His Glory?

Our world displays the handiwork of God all around us—in the land and sea, the animals and the plants. But in respect to the sky, the heavens, the universe…there’s a realm of beauty and creation man has not been able to witness, until now. “The Heavens Proclaim His Glory” is a compilation of stunning photography taken by NASA’s Hubble® Telescope capturing striking images of stars, galaxies, cosmic events, planets, and more. Vivid up-close photographs are paired with a romantic Psalm or quote, as well as a short description of the image. The Heavens will open up a whole new world of worship and praise for our God.

I love this quote from Abraham Lincoln, who said: “I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down upon the earth and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how he could look up into the heavens and say there is no God.”

Enjoy these amazing images and accompanying quotes…

As I look at this astounding photograph taken by the Hubble telescope, a cross-like image comes into view. God proclaimed and promised: “I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below…Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Acts 2:19, 21 niv). “I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself” (John 12:32 niv). “I will . .. bring my salvation to the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 49:6 niv).

This is exactly what the God of heaven and earth did—He orchestrated the most excruciating rescue mission of all time by sending salvation down from heaven in the form of His only beloved Son, the Lord Jesus. God said, “It is I who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts” (Isaiah 45:12 niv).

The Son of God stretched His arms out for all people to demonstrate His mercy and love for the whole world. He took our sins and covered them with His crimson blood in death. But He rose from the grave, conquered death and lives victorious in the realm of Glory.
–Franklin Graham

The tendency in so many of us is to reduce God to a personally useful deity. The vision of God’s great glory so powerfully on display in this magnificent book drew me to “look up” and worship such a magnificent God rather than “look in” and expect Him to do my bidding. It’s a wonderful reminder for people of all ages.
–Dr. Larry Crabb.

Is My Name in the Book of Life?

To conclue the Summer of Answers, we pose this interesting question that many people have asked, even if they didn’t use these exact words. It might’ve sounded something more like, “How can I know I’m going to Heaven?” I always thought it’d be nice to have a website like lambsbookoflife.org where you could look up a person’s name and see if they’ve qualified. HA!

According to Dr. David Jeremiah, this is an important question for you to know the answer to. This is how he tackled this question in “The Prophesy Answer Book.”

He says, “The Book of Life is mentioned frequently in Scripture (Exodus 32-33; Psalm 69:28; Daniel 12:1; Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:5; 13:8; 17:8; 21:27; 22:19), and it is imperative to make sure that your name is contained in it because that is your reservation for your eternal home with God. When you believe in Jesus Christ, you receive the free gift of eternal life and make your reservation in heaven. Those who do not receive God’s free gift are blotted out.”

Then he mentions: “Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous” (Psalm 69:28); “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15) where the souls of the damned will anguish for all eternity. There, separated from the glory of God, they will remain in an unending state of hopeless agony.
